D. Ricardo
Damian Ricardo Palmer started his career when, at the early age of 11, he was influenced by Broadus “B. Palma” Palmer and Antonio “Pimpstar” Palmer. He sought to become a hip hop artist, watching and following every move his role models made. As he got older, he started becoming more familiar with the music industry. When his uncle, Brad “BHumbull” Palmer, introduced him to a relatively new computer-based music creation program, Damian began a different approach to the music world by producing his own beats. This was only the beginning.
After about a year of self-production, another of D.’s cousins, Kevin “Kapus” Palmer, heard about his music from Antonio “PimpStar” Palmer and decided to commission Damian to produce some sample songs for him and his group “P.O.T” (Palmers On Top,) which B. Palma was a member of, at the time. When presented with the opportunity, Ricardo accepted and became a producer for P.O.T. Not much time passed before B. Palma noticed the potential in the instrumentals he was cranking out, and presented Damian with the idea of him becoming an artist with a new group, WolfGang, that he was putting together, alongside Sidney “Freak Aliaz” Morris and Marquis “Keys” Johnson.
Time passed, they worked hard, and D. Ricardo, now running with WolfGang, decided to put together a mixtape. It was then that they, through P.O.T., met Rhythmic, (who had already started LaVa Camp, of which Jimmie Dough and Quintussential were already his teammates,) and commissioned him to engineer the project. “I Can Do It Better” sold over 3,000 copies locally, and added to an already growing buzz over the WolfGang’s clever punchlines and creative lyrics. The team decided to go off the radar for awhile to regroup and plan the next course of action, while still featuring on other mixtapes, hosting parties, and releasing hit singles, such as “She Grown.”
Now a devoted member of LaVa Camp, and affiliated with successful teams like Nu Vision Entertainment, and currently working on building a team of his creation, N.S.O.A. (New School of America,) Ricardo is always working on improving his style. Backed by Everythang Green Films owner and S.Y.N.S.’ manager, Antonio “Bink” Younger, D. Ricardo’s name has become well-known in Central Virginia, as well as across the United States, thanks to DJ’s, promoters, and a work ethic rarely found in artists as young as himself. “Music isn’t a game, it’s a business. So if you don’t work, you stay broke.” (D. Ricardo)
